Kentucky Jet Charter arranges flights for race days and casino trips, and in this state that starts with the horses. Owners, trainers and racing fans fly into Louisville for Churchill Downs and into Lexington, Kentucky, for Keeneland, while Kentucky groups head out to Las Vegas, Atlantic City and the Bahamas for a weekend at the tables.
Race days at Churchill Downs and Keeneland
Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is a few miles from Churchill Downs, and Blue Grass Airport sits across the road from Keeneland, so most racing trips land close to the track. The Kentucky Oaks runs on Friday, April 30th, 2027, and the 153rd Kentucky Derby on Saturday, May 1st, 2027. Keeneland’s spring meet runs from April 2nd to April 23rd, 2027, and its fall meet runs each October. We also arrange flights for the Breeders’ Cup, in the years it comes to Keeneland.
Booking early for Derby week
Derby week is the busiest week of the year for private flights into Louisville. The ramps fill early, and the FAA manages arrivals into the Louisville airports that week, so there can be delays on the way in. We suggest booking as soon as you know you are going. Your advisor will then plan the airport and the timing with you well ahead of the race.
Following the racing calendar
Many owners and trainers follow their horses from track to track through the season. One trip might run from Lexington to Louisville and then on to Saratoga or Florida, and a charter can link those stops on your own schedule. Tell us the whole itinerary at the start, and we will plan it as one trip.
Casino weekends and the trip home
For Las Vegas, Atlantic City or the Bahamas, your advisor will suggest an aircraft sized to the group and the distance. These trips are usually social, and more people tend to join once the plans firm up, so give us the headcount you really expect. If you will be carrying cash or valuables, we can also help arrange security on the ground. Our bodyguard and armored vehicle page covers that side in more detail.
Vetting Behind Every Trip
Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:
- FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
- Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
- Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
- Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
Kentucky-Specific Patterns We Plan Around
Kentucky’s busiest weeks follow the racing calendar. The Kentucky Oaks and Derby fill Louisville on the first weekend of May, and Keeneland’s spring and fall meets and its horse sales bring owners and buyers into Lexington, so those dates book first, and the FAA manages arrivals into the Louisville airports during Derby week. The rest of the year, flights leave the state for business, for Florida in the winter and for family vacations. Most Louisville trips use Louisville Muhammad Ali International or Bowman Field, Blue Grass Airport in Lexington sits across the road from Keeneland, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International in Hebron serves the north of the state, and Bowling Green, Owensboro and Paducah cover the south and west. Ice and snow in the winter and strong spring thunderstorms are the weather we watch most often.
