Piston aircraft are among the aircraft Kentucky Jet Charter arranges for trips to and from Kentucky. The types we arrange seat 3 to 9 passengers, with published ranges from 730 to 1,480 nautical miles. Which one suits your trip depends on the passenger count, the baggage, the distance and the airports at both ends.
Typical Aircraft
The types we arrange in this category are Beech Baron 58, Beechcraft Baron G58, Cessna 340, Cirrus SR22, Piper Aerostar 600, Piper Cherokee Six PA-32, Piper Navajo PA-31 (Cheyenne / Chieftain), Piper PA-23 Aztec and Piper Saratoga PA-32R.
When a Piston Fits a Kentucky Trip
Piston aircraft cover the shortest trips from Kentucky, such as a hop to a neighboring state, where a larger aircraft would be more than the trip needs. Most are small with limited baggage space, so tell us who is flying and what they are bringing.
Cabin size, baggage space and range vary across these 9 types, so send us the details and we will narrow the list down for you.
The runway a particular aircraft needs is calculated by the operator for that day’s conditions, and your advisor confirms it with the operator before anything is booked.
Vetting Behind Every Trip
Every operator, aircraft, and crew goes through our internal due diligence before we present any options. Our internal standards meet or exceed what the FAA requires:
- FAR Part 135 charter operators for traditional private aircraft, or FAR Part 121 for airliner-size and group trips (or the foreign equivalent on international legs)
- Operator subscription to Wyvern and ARGUS reviewed where the operator participates.
- Pilot experience and operator incident history reviewed before we recommend an aircraft.
- Fewer than 60 brokers worldwide hold Premium Wyvern Broker Member status, and Air Charter Advisors is one of them.
Kentucky-Specific Patterns We Plan Around
Kentucky’s busiest weeks follow the racing calendar. The Kentucky Oaks and Derby fill Louisville on the first weekend of May, and Keeneland’s spring and fall meets and its horse sales bring owners and buyers into Lexington, so those dates book first, and the FAA manages arrivals into the Louisville airports during Derby week. The rest of the year, flights leave the state for business, for Florida in the winter and for family vacations. Most Louisville trips use Louisville Muhammad Ali International or Bowman Field, Blue Grass Airport in Lexington sits across the road from Keeneland, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International in Hebron serves the north of the state, and Bowling Green, Owensboro and Paducah cover the south and west. Ice and snow in the winter and strong spring thunderstorms are the weather we watch most often.
